Morning routine checklist: three small wins
A good morning routine is three small wins before the day starts pulling: water, bed, and a minute of daylight; a five-minute stretch; and a quick plan. This free checklist runs as a loop in ODDALoop — start it in one tap, no account needed, and it works offline.
Why shorter beats ambitious
Most morning routines fail by being impressive. The 5am-club version — cold plunge, journaling, an hour of reading before sunrise — works for about a week, then one rough night knocks the whole tower over. A routine you can finish in ten minutes on a bad day is a routine you'll actually keep, and three small wins, done most mornings, compound into something the heroic version never delivers.
The checklist
This mirrors the Morning kickstart template built into the app — three stages, in order:
- Wake up. A three-item checklist: glass of water, make the bed, one minute of daylight. Hydrate, make one corner of the world tidy, and let your eyes tell your brain it's morning.
- Stretch. A 5-minute timer. No program, no poses to memorize — just move until the timer runs out.
- Plan the day. One prompt — "What would make today a win?" — and a short checklist: pick the one big thing, time-block it, glance at the calendar. Thirty seconds of steering before the day grabs the wheel.
The template is a starting point, not a contract — everything is editable. Swap the stretch for a walk, add a coffee-ritual stage, trim the checklists to taste.
No streaks. The routine waits.
In ODDALoop, routines advance by attendance, not by calendar — ODDA stands for Open · Do · Done · Advance. You open the loop, do the current stage, mark it done, and the pointer moves to the next stage, wrapping back to the start after the last one. Rough night? Skipped a morning entirely? Nothing resets and no number shames you — the loop is exactly where you left it, waiting for your next visit. More on the thinking behind that on the about page.
Free, no account, works offline
ODDALoop is free and runs entirely on your device — no sign-up, no subscription, no connection required. It's an installable web app (PWA), so you can add it to your home screen and it behaves like a native app. An optional account adds backup and sync across devices, but the morning checklist needs none of that.
