๐ง Pomodoro focus loop: four rounds of deep work
This is the classic pomodoro structure โ four 25-minute focus rounds with 5-minute breaks and a 15-minute long break at the end โ run as a loop, where marking a stage done is the bell. It's free, needs no signup, and works offline.
In ODDALoop, a routine is a loop: a cycle of ordered stages that advances every time you mark one done, and wraps back to the start after the last. (More on how that works on the about page.) The pomodoro template is an eight-stage loop โ focus, break, focus, break, all the way to the long one.
The eight stages
- Focus 1 โ a 25-minute timer and one instruction: "One task. Close everything else."
- Break 1 โ 5 minutes. "Stand up. Water. Eyes off the screen."
- Focus 2 โ 25 minutes.
- Break 2 โ 5 minutes.
- Focus 3 โ 25 minutes.
- Break 3 โ 5 minutes.
- Focus 4 โ 25 minutes.
- Long break โ 15 minutes. "You earned it โ go outside."
Start the timer, do the round, mark it done. The loop advances to the next stage, and after the long break it wraps back to Focus 1 for your next session.
Why a loop beats a plain pomodoro timer
A plain timer forgets you the moment it stops. A loop remembers which round you're in โ across interruptions, across days. Answer the door mid-round, get pulled into a meeting, or come back tomorrow morning: the loop is still sitting on Focus 3, waiting. No re-counting on your fingers, no starting over.
And every mark-done is a small logged win. Instead of a timer that just rings and resets, you build a quiet history of rounds actually finished โ with no streak to lose if you skip a day.
Make it your pomodoro
The template is a starting point, not a rule. Everything is editable: stretch the rounds to 50 minutes if 25 feels short, add a fifth and sixth round for long days, or attach a checklist of tasks to each focus stage so the "one task" is decided before the timer starts.
